We are Samantha and Jay and we’re the two crazy kids behind Maggie and June Photography. We absolutely love getting to know each of you, so we figured we’d share a little bit about who we are.
Jay is an Alabama native with a penchant for fishing and making really bad dad dog jokes. He is a recently retired United States Marine and by far the best second shooter anyone could ask for. He’s the brawn behind Maggie and June Photography. He’s always good for a laugh, the transport of objects too heavy for my tiny arms and the amusement of tiny humans.
Sam is a North Carolina native with a sweet tea addiction and an unequivocal love for all things Nikon. A big believer in paying it forward and telling it like it is. Happily obsessed with sparkly things, going to every Marshalls and TJ Maxx within a 30 mile radius in one day and singing far too loudly in whilst driving.
We met on a Wednesday, while Sam was working at a cowboy boot store when Jay was stationed at MCAS New River as a CH53 Mechanic for the United States Marine Corps. We were married in a lavish courthouse ceremony complete with several of our closest friends and a trip to Buffalo Wild Wings to celebrate post-wedding. We’re proud critter parents. We love ’em so much we named our business after them (Maggie, our favorite dearly departed horse and June, Sam’s faithful but retired service dog). We consider ourselves insanely blessed with five canine kids, 6 kitties, three very spoiled Chinchillas and two rats who are convinced they are parakeets as they enjoy shoulder rides through the house.
We are avid music lovers and habitual givers. Lovers of deep roots, college football and Johnny Cash. We perfected the art of the living room dance party and Saturday night is always perfect for Cards Against Humanity with a circle of great friends. We’re big believers in the simple things and the preservation of the things that mean the most to folks. This is why photographing the lives of others is such a tremendous privilege to us.
Getting to know each of you is our absolute favorite part of being photographers. So don’t be shy ya’ll, feel free to give us a like or a follow, we always follow back. <3
