If you’ve never booked a session with a photographer before, I’m sure you have questions about how a session works and what you need to do to get the best possible result out of your session. In this session guide I have assembled answers to the most common questions I get as well as some tips to help you get the most out of your session. I’ll cover booking basics, what to wear as well as other tips to help you during your session so you’ll be as comfortable as possible. I want you to have beautiful images that you’ll cherish for a lifetime, so the more we communicate your desires and goals for your session, the better I can translate that into beautiful images for you.

If you’re still in the process of researching before booking I encourage you to read through this entire session guide. Even if you do not book with me I hope it will aid you in the process of finding a Photographer who will be the perfect fit for you.
The non-refundable booking fee serves two purposes. The first is that it helps break up the cost of your session. Some folks find this helpful as this fee goes toward the cost of your session. The second purpose the fee serves is that sometimes people just don’t show up. I know, sounds crazy right? But it happens. The booking fee helps make up for the time and resources lost in the process of a no-show session. Your booking fee will be 50% of your total session fee with the remainder due at the time of your session. Please note that when booking a mini-session full payment is due upon booking. Should you run into unforeseen circumstances I am happy to allow one last-minute reschedule of your session.
Absolutely! I am currently central to the Jacksonville, North Carolina area. However I regularly travel through the state of North Carolina as I have family in the Eastern portion of the state and am happy to travel for your session. I do charge a small travel fee to cover a portion of my cost for gas to areas beyond a 40 mile radius of Jacksonville, NC.
My Client Agreement is very simple. No over the top terminology fit for a skilled lawyer or anything like that. Just a simple agreement between you and me that protects us both in the event that any hiccups occur. They usually don’t, but life happens so being prepared and planning ahead is always a safe bet.
That depends on a lot of factors. Many photographers use a system that states that you will receive “X” amount of images depending upon your session type and should you want more images from your session you’ll be required to pay extra per image. I tend not to subscribe to this rule and instead focus on getting as many images as possible during each session. You are guaranteed to get a wide array of images and I don’t charge extra to give you more images. You will receive as many quality images as I take. For example, a candid shot might not turn out as great as we would like, that will likely get scrapped for a clean, sharp image. This saves you from spending extra money on images and means you’ll get more for your money so I can focus solely on your session and not how many photos I’ve taken. I have an itchy shutter finger, so you’ll have plenty of images to fall in love with. I also try to deliver multiple edits of the same photo so you have options and can decide for yourself which ones you prefer. This means you’ll receive clean edits with bright colors, extras in black and white as well as artistic edits as sometimes a photo just strikes my creative nerve and I always try to include little extra like that in with your image download.
The most efficient and fast way is via an online gallery. After your session has ended and I’ve edited all your photos I’ll email you with a link to your online gallery. This will include a download code so you can download your high-resolution files. We DO NOT deliver photographs via CD for several reasons. CDs are flimsy and can easily become scratched or lost. We only archive your photographs for no more than 2 years so should you lose your copies the safest bet is to order one of our USB Photo drives of your images so they can be safely stored.
One of the things I am most pleased to offer my clients besides my experience behind the camera, is my greater experience within editing programs that allow me to bring you an absolutely polished, beautiful finished product. I spent more than 10 years working in the Graphic and Website Design field as well as working post-processing for other photographers so your photos are in good hands. Because I like to ensure that the images delivered to you are absolutely the best they can possibly be I allow myself two weeks at the most to process images barring any unforeseen circumstances. More often than not, I finish editing much sooner than two weeks and you will receive 1-2 preview images prior to the delivery of all your session images.
You should always wear something you are comfortable in for your session. I can’t stress that enough. Bold colors and patterns are always a good idea. For family sessions, avoid shirts with large logos as they can be distracting in photos. Fun fabrics with a lot of texture or character always look amazing on camera. For Winter/Fall: chunky sweaters, plaids, knits and denim. Think layering! For Spring/Summer: flowing summer dresses, bright sun-shiny colors and natural make-up and hairstyles look best. Just remember layering always adds a certain depth and appeal to an image so try pairing a cute jacket over a patterned shirt or dress, etc. For kids, always bring an extra outfit or two. Once we’ve decided on your desired session date we’ll go over session locations. Together we’ll choose the best location based on the type of session it is. If you’re the outdoorsy type I am always happy to trudge through any park, field or trail. Downtown/rural buildings, old doorways, steps, gardens, and playgrounds also make for great backdrops. Let me know what comes to mind for you in terms of location so we can choose the best spot to reflect on your personality and the theme of your session.
Rule one, is that a parent must ALWAYS be present for sessions with kids. Children often make the best subjects as they tend to flow on their own so candid shots are usually some of the best when it comes to photographing children. Don’t be discouraged if your kids don’t take direction or get a little fussy. Sessions including children require patience and I’m happy to oblige. Children respond best when we highlight their personalities. So don’t hesitate to bring a favorite toy or stuffed animal, favorite hat/boots or whatever your child may be most attached to at the time. I advise plenty of sleep for little ones the night before a session and that they’ve had a snack prior to the session (I usually try to bring a few of my own to share in the event that anyone gets to feeling grumbly in the tummy.)
Yes and no. I know, sounds complex but hear me out. Cheap printing sources like Walgreens and Walmart will NOT maintain the quality and beauty of your photographs. The quality of the paper and inks used is not capable of preserving the hard work that went into composing and editing each of your images by hand. We include a print and web release with every session however we strongly advise AGAINST using printing outlets like Walgreens or Walmart. We have affordable, high quality options available for prints that will last you a lifetime.
In the event that your session date has been turned sour by bad weather or illness, we are happy to reschedule at your earliest convenience at no additional cost to you. Please note that when working with young children, if I become ill I will communicate with you to reschedule your session as I will not photograph a young child and risk passing on any illness, however moderate.
Your session will begin promptly at the agreed upon time. Please arrange to be dressed, made-up and ready to begin at this time. Because the session length is predetermined, any additional time required to prepare yourself or children once you’ve arrived will reduce the amount of time we can spend in-session and further limits the amount of images captured. In the event that you are running late please make every attempt to contact us so that we can try to accommodate a late start. Please be aware that a late start deducts time from your session. Due to the time sensitive nature of sessions we cannot guarantee that we will be able to make up for the time you lost while tardy. If you are late with no call or contact, you will be considered a no show if you have not arrived within 30 minutes.
Maggie and June Photography keeps image files archived for no more than two years. Your session will be archived one month after your gallery has been sent. Upon archival your files will be stored for two years. If you would like to retrieve files from archive there will be a fee of 50.00. Maggie and June Photography takes no responsibility for files once they are archived. It is your responsibility to safely store your files. Sadly technology can fail. If your files are not stored properly and have been lost more than two years after your session date please understand that they may no longer be available.
Cameras, camcorders, or recording devices of any kind are not permitted at your photographic session. This includes cellular devices with cameras. This is especially important for wedding coverage. Please leave all camera equipment, or said devices at home. Attendance at photo sessions is limited to those individuals being photographed. In the case of children and newborns, at least one parent must be present during the session. Pets are always welcome.
Our goal is that you will be thrilled with your photographs. We will always do our best to ensure that you feel both comfortable and confident in front of the camera. However we cannot offer free re-shoots for any reason including dissatisfaction with clothing, facial expressions, hair, wind, makeup or other items beyond our control. There is no extra charge for re-shoots due to technical issues (equipment malfunction, computer malfunction, etc.).
Yes. You are always welcome to share your images via social media. This is why we provide clients with social media ready files of all of your images. However, as stated in the Client Agreement Maggie and June Photography retains the copyright to all photographs taken. By signing the client agreement you are agreeing not to alter, crop or change the photographs in any way. You are welcome to share your images across social media, however please don’t crop out any watermarks on your social media ready files.
Maggie and June Photography is committed to your privacy. Information collected from clients in person, over the phone, in emails or through our website is strictly confidential. We will not sell or exchange names or any other personally identifiable information about our clients with third parties and work to ensure your personal information is secure at all times. As such sensitive information such as client agreement details may only be discussed with the client(s) who signed the client agreement.
